Kingston High School Navy sends boat to Saratoga

On May 13 and 14 KHS Varsity Rowing’s Girls Varsity 8 will compete with other elite crews at the annual NYS High School Championships held on the Fish Creek in Saratoga, NY. The Championships are hosted by the Saratoga Rowing Association and are comprised of 40 different qualifying races on Saturday, leading to final races on Sunday.

The Kingston boat, coxed by Arlo Stone, is rowed by Stroke-Agnes Anderson, Taylor Robey, Karlee North, Bailey Shaffer, Julia Wolf, Katherine Kuster, Jordan Sleight and MacKenzie DerCola.

The Crew captured a Gold Medal at the Triangulars Regatta held in Poughkeepsie on the 7timeth of May. On May 5th, the first day of the event the KHS Varsity Rowing Team’s Freshman 4+ also won a Gold Medal. This boat’s Crew was Stroke-Brendan Jaeger, Cameron Fairley, Ryan North and Liam Hutton and it was Coxed by Arlo Stone.

A third boat winning a Gold Medal was a Single rowed by Sarah West.

KHS Varsity Rowing hosted a home invitational on April 28. Kingston’s Girls 8 and Boys Freshman 4+ also took Gold Medals in this race as well as Kingston’s Boy’s Second 8 and Girl’s 2nd 4+. This Regatta was also attended by Suffern Varsity, Newburgh Rowing Club and Shaker Rowing Club coached by Kingston Alumnus and Rowing Team Captain, Brandon Murray.

On April 22nd, the Girl’s 8 medaled at the W.A.R.s Regatta in Poughkeepsie. Kingston fielded a full complement of boats for this early season race and all rowed very well.

The Team has 4 more Regattas this season, all of them Championships. 5/16 the Hudson Valley Rowing League (HVRL) Orange/Ulster Championship held on PineCliff Lake NJ; 5/21 the HVRL Novice Championship at the same venue; Thursday 6/1 the HVRL Sculling Championship held at the Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston and Saturday 6/3 the HVRL Sweeps Championship held at the Hudson River Rowing Association’s boathouse in Poughkeepsie.   See full schedule.
